Lauren Stanford was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1987. After taking ceramic courses at Colorado State University, Lauren unexpectedly found a connection with clay. Lauren graduated and returned to Alaska in 2010 where she began commercial fishing with her family in Bristol Bay. After getting the itch to work with clay again, she started taking ceramic classes in 2013.
Lauren received her BFA in Ceramics from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2018. The following fall, Lauren became an artist in residence at the Mendocino Art Center in California. She completed two terms, finishing in May 2020. She also was a short-term artist in resident at Red Lodge Clay Center in September 2019.
